Abstract

The perceptive book collector would do well to get hold of a copy of everything that issues from Carroll Coleman's Prairie Press in Iowa City, for he has an uncanny way of making exquisite books. Not the least of his skills and virtues is the ability to make the physical form of the book suit the subject matter. He has done it again in this delightful little collection of Hayden Carruth's winter poems with the elegant sketches of winter scenes produced by Dale Ballantyne. Many devotees of poetry know Carruth's Norfolk Poems. He has a novel to his credit, Appendix A, and is about to publish a study of the works of Camus.

People who live in tropical or warm zones and who have not confronted old man winter in his full fury can get the crackling noises and the sharp saber thrusts of winter in the vivid poetry of
