This volume, which represents the eighth edition of this popular text "Disorders of the Blood," maintains the excellent standards of the preceding editions, the first of which appeared in 1935. In a sense this last edition represents a memorial to the senior author, Sir Lionel E. H. Whitby, who died Nov. 24, 1956, after preparation of the manuscript but before its publication. His interest in and his many contributions to various phases of hematology have done much to advance our knowledge of this subject, and this edition of the text, as have the preceding editions, expresses the wide clinical experience of the authors in the fields of hematology.
